Legacy macro migration

Overview

This page describes the process for automatically converting migrated Tab Groups into Cloud-compatible versions. This tool is designed to streamline the transition from the legacy editor to the modern Confluence Cloud experience.

How it works

The conversion tool scans pages for deprecated Tab Group macros nested within the Legacy Content Macro and attempts to replace them with their modern equivalents (e.g., Tab Wizard) without losing your content.

Prerequisites

  • The page must have been migrated from a Data Center instance.

  • The page must contain a Tab Group structure within the Legacy Content macros.

Manual Review Required

Automatic conversion only applies to macro structures that are supported in Confluence Cloud. If a page contains unsupported structures, the conversion will not proceed automatically to ensure data integrity. Instead, a "Manual Review Required" message will be displayed.

Please note: The legacy macro migration will not succeed for nested structures that are unsupported by default in Confluence Cloud.

  • Atlassian is considering support for nested macros here.

  • We compiled a list of supported macro combinations here.

  • Pages will require manual review if they contain any of these macros.

Bulk Conversion

It is possible to convert macros in bulk by first performing a content scan and afterwards, running the migration. The app will verify the content and perform updates where possible. No data will be lost, and content can be restored at any time via Version History.

Single page conversion

Alternatively, you can select any page and run the migration tool on it individually. This allows you to preview how the page will look after conversion before committing to a bulk run.

Previous Run Reports

It is also possible to review reports from previous runs to track changes over time or to continue with ongoing conversion efforts.

FAQ

Does the automatic conversion support other macros outside of the Tab Group and Tabs (Deprecated)?

  • No, only Tab Groups and Tabs (deprecated) are currently supported. There are plans to add the other legacy Navitabs macros, however, we cannot provide a possible timeline.
