SharePoint Connector for Jira adds SharePoint actions to Jira automation. With these actions, an automation rule can create and delete SharePoint folders, upload work item attachments to SharePoint, and connect or disconnect SharePoint items from a work item.
Each action does exactly one thing. You decide when it runs, under which conditions, and how it combines with other SharePoint or Jira actions. This lets the actions fit very different processes, from an exchange folder for every helpdesk ticket to moving sensitive attachments out of Jira. The SharePoint actions are available in space rules and global rules.

The action reference describes the inputs and outputs of each action and how it behaves in special situations.
How actions pass information to each other
Actions pass information to each other through smart values. When an action runs, it stores its results as smart values, for example, the URL of a folder it created. Any later action in the same rule can use these values as input. A smart value is only filled if its action ran earlier in the same rule.
The following rule creates a folder for each new work item and shows the folder on the work item:
-
TRIGGER Work item created
-
ACTION Create SharePoint folder, with folder name
{{issue.key}} -
ACTION Connect SharePoint item to work item, with item URL
{{createdSharepointItem.folderUrl}}
The smart value reference lists all SharePoint smart values, the input fields they fit into, and how to use them in conditions. For Jira’s own smart values, such as {{issue.key}}, see Smart values in Jira automation in the Atlassian documentation.
Common patterns
Most rules follow one of two patterns:
-
Folder lifecycle: Create a folder when a work item is created and connect it to the work item. When the work item is closed, delete the folder if nobody used it.
-
Attachment sync: Upload attachments to SharePoint when they are added and connect them to the work item.
The tutorials walk through both patterns step by step, with variations.
Microsoft account and permissions
The SharePoint actions access SharePoint using the Microsoft account connected in the action configuration. A rule can only reach the sites, libraries, and folders that this account can access. SharePoint items that a rule creates inherit the permissions of their parent item.
