SharePoint Connector for Confluence - Cloud

Administrator's Guide

This guide covers everything admins need to install, configure, and manage SharePoint Connector for Confluence.

As an admin, you connect Confluence to Microsoft 365 and control which features your users see, including AI features, the Assistant for SharePoint byline, and SharePoint Folders for spaces.

Who this guide is for

  • Confluence global admins install and license the app and configure its settings in Confluence administration.

  • Microsoft 365 / SharePoint admins deploy the Confluence Page Embedder to the SharePoint App Catalog, which is required only if you want to embed Confluence pages in SharePoint.

  • Confluence space admins configure SharePoint Folders for an individual space.

Before you begin

Required roles

  • You are a Confluence global admin to install and license the app and to change its settings.

  • You are a Microsoft 365 / SharePoint admin to deploy the Confluence Page Embedder to the SharePoint App Catalog.

  • You are a space admin to configure SharePoint Folders for a space.

Supported platforms

Platform

Supported

Confluence Cloud

Yes

Confluence Data Center

No, available as a separate app

The app integrates with SharePoint Online and OneDrive. It does not support SharePoint Server (on-premise). Confluence Cloud has no version pinning. Every customer runs the latest version automatically.

Instance requirement

Confluence must be accessed over HTTPS (SSL). Without HTTPS, the app may not work as expected.

End users also need a supported browser and third-party cookies enabled. These user-side requirements are listed once in the User guide.

Required app permissions

The app accesses SharePoint content in the context of the signed-in user. During the Microsoft consent process, it requests the following Microsoft Graph permissions.

Permission

Type

Why the app needs it

Admin consent required

User.Read

Delegated

Signs the user in and reads their basic profile.

No

Sites.ReadWrite.All

Delegated

Queries SharePoint sites, files, and lists, and uploads files to document libraries on behalf of the user.

No

User.ReadBasic.All

Delegated

Shows profile data for person or group columns in embedded lists.

No

Team.ReadBasic.All

Delegated

Reads team names and descriptions for person or group columns in embedded lists.

No

Presence.Read.All

Delegated

Shows presence information for person or group columns in embedded lists.

No

All permissions are delegated: consent applies only to actions the signed-in user is already allowed to perform in SharePoint. The same permission model as SharePoint applies, and the app stores or processes no data offline.

Depending on your organization's consent settings in Microsoft Entra ID, each user can grant consent individually, or an admin can grant consent once for everyone. For details, see the installation guide.
