To install and configure this app, follow the guided path and complete the steps on each subpage in order, unless otherwise stated on that page.
Installation is done in a few steps:
-
Check prerequisites
-
Install the Confluence app
-
Consent in Azure
-
Enable embedding
1. Check prerequisites
1.1. Technical prerequisites (for admins and users)
All communication between Confluence and SharePoint Online is done in the user’s browser.
→ No direct server‑to‑server connection between Confluence and SharePoint is required.
-
The end user:
-
Has access to Confluence Cloud and SharePoint Online from the same browser.
-
Uses a supported browser.
-
-
Confluence is accessed via HTTPS (SSL).
Warning
If Confluence is not available via HTTPS or the browser is not supported, the app might not work as expected.
1.2. Permissions for searching SharePoint content
These permissions are required only if users search for SharePoint lists/documents via Confluence macros.
To perform search queries in the SharePoint List and Document macros, the logged‑in user needs at least read access to the root SharePoint site collection.
If searches don’t return results for a user but work for others, first verify read access to the root site collection.
2. Install and configure the Confluence app
Installation is fully managed in Confluence and requires only a few clicks.
As Confluence Administrator:
-
Install the app from the Atlassian Marketplace and manage the license as usual.
-
Follow the step‑by‑step guide.
Once the app is installed, users can immediately start adding SharePoint content to Confluence pages.
3. Consent in Azure
This step depends on your organization’s “Consent and permissions” configuration in Microsoft Entra ID (Azure AD).
In many organizations, each user can simply grant consent to the app when they first use it. In some organizations, user consent is restricted, and an administrator must approve the app instead.
If you want to grant consent once for all users, follow the steps in this guide:
This makes the experience even smoother because users won’t need to navigate the consent dialog individually.
4. Enable Confluence to SharePoint Embedding
This step is required only if you also want to embed Confluence Cloud pages within SharePoint pages (for example, to display Confluence content on intranet sites).
As SharePoint Administrator:
-
Deploy the app
Follow the deployment steps in the Guide. -
Set up and test embedding
Configure and test embedding Confluence pages in SharePoint.
