Overview
Log files are essential for troubleshooting technical issues. If you are using Jira or Confluence Data Center/Server, our support team may ask for these files to help identify server-side errors.
Log files can be very large. If you are attaching a file directly to a support ticket, please ensure it is under 10 MB. If the file is larger, we recommend creating a Confluence Support ZIP instead.
1. Confluence Log Files
By default, the main application log is located within the Confluence Home Directory.
File Path
<Confluence Home Directory>/logs/atlassian-confluence.log
How to find your Home Directory
If you are unsure where your Home Directory is located:
-
Go to Administration (⚙️) > General Configuration.
-
Select System Information in the left sidebar.
-
Look for the entry titled Confluence Home.
2. Jira Log Files
Similar to Confluence, Jira stores its primary logs in the Local Home Directory.
File Path
<Jira Home Directory>/log/atlassian-jira.log
How to find your Home Directory
If you are unsure where your Home Directory is located:
-
Go to Administration (⚙️) > System.
-
Select System Info in the left sidebar.
-
Look for the entry titled Location of JIRA Local Home.
Alternative: Using Support Tools
In recent versions of Jira and Confluence, you can retrieve these logs without server-level access:
-
Go to the Troubleshooting and Support Tools section in your administration console.
-
Create a Support ZIP.
-
Uncheck all options except Application Logs.
-
Download the ZIP and attach it to your ticket.
Verification Step
✅ Verify that the atlassian-confluence.log or atlassian-jira.log file has a "Last Modified" timestamp that matches the time the issue occurred.
