Meridian People & Skills Hub

Installation guide for Jira Cloud

The app is not on the Marketplace yet. These steps apply once it is released.

This guide is for Jira global admins who install Meridian People & Skills Hub in their organization. It covers installation from the Atlassian Marketplace, how to connect Confluence, and the checks that confirm the app is working.

Installing the app is not enough to make it do anything. The app stays idle until you choose the profile population mode, which is the next page in this guide.

Before you begin

Required permissions

  • Jira: You are a Jira global admin.

  • Confluence (optional): The app reads Confluence content only when Confluence is on the same site and connected to the app. Installing Confluence is not enough. You connect it in the app's Content access panel, which also shows the current connection status. See Control what Meridian People & Skills Hub can access.

Install the app from the Atlassian Marketplace

  1. Go to the Atlassian Marketplace listing for People & Skills Hub.

  2. Click Try it free.

  3. Select the Cloud site where you want to install the app.

  4. Confirm the installation and wait for Atlassian to finish.

The first time you open the app, Atlassian shows an Access required dialog. Accept it. If you decline, the app won't work.

Confirm the installation worked

  1. In Jira, go to Settings, then Apps, and confirm that People & Skills Hub appears in the sidebar. Open it to see the configuration page, with a Content access panel showing the Jira and Confluence connection status.

  2. Open Apps in the Jira navigation and select People & Skills Hub. Before you choose a mode, the hub and the Jira issue panel show a notice that a Jira administrator needs to configure the app, with a button to the admin page. That notice is the expected state at this point, not an error. The Skills Navigator agent does not show this notice, so don't use the agent to check whether the app is configured.

  3. Open any Jira issue and confirm that the Get expert advice panel appears in the context section.

Tell your users about the access dialog

The app reads Jira and Confluence content on behalf of each user. The first time someone opens the app, Atlassian shows an Access required dialog asking them to allow this.

Ask your users to accept that dialog. If someone declines or closes that dialog, the app doesn't work correctly for them, and accepting later doesn't reliably fix it. To recover, ask them to open the app once in a private or incognito browser window and accept the access request there. See The app does not work after you declined the access dialog.

Next steps

  1. Choose a profile population mode. Nothing is collected before this.

  2. Tell your users where to find the app and what to expect. The User guide for Meridian People & Skills Hub is written for them.

Uninstall the app

Uninstall the app from Manage apps in Jira, as with any Marketplace app. Uninstalling is also the only way to change the profile population mode. Assume that the collected skills are gone after an uninstall, and that everybody starts over with an empty profile.
